How to apply
Every application for a visa to enter the Velocity Interoperability Network follows the same procedure. The steps below apply to visitor, work and member staff visas alike.
Step 1: Check the entry rules
Read what may and may not be brought into the Network, and what must be declared on arrival. Applications that plan to bring items that are not permitted are refused.
Step 2: Choose a visa type
Visitor, work or member staff. Each type has its own questions and its own maximum period of stay.
Step 3: Complete the application form
Answer every required question. Where a device or system is asked for, name it exactly as it is registered.
Step 4: Pay the fee
Fees are fixed by visa type and are not refunded if the application is refused.
Step 5: Wait for a decision
The Department examines each application in the order it is received. You will be told the decision in writing.
Step 6: Register your devices on arrival
Certified devices are registered at the point of entry. Declared items are inspected and are normally released the same day.
When you are ready, apply for a visa. The standard within which each visa type is decided, how time is counted and what may lengthen it are set out under Processing Times.
How applications are examined
Applications are examined in the order they are received. Each is checked against the entry rules and, for member staff, against the clearance named on the form. Incomplete applications are returned rather than refused, so that they may be completed and resubmitted without a further fee.

Fees and processing times
All processing standards| Visa type | Maximum period | Fee | Processing time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visitor visa | Up to 90 days | 40 credits | 5 working days |
| Work visa | Up to 2 years | 160 credits | 15 working days |
| Member staff visa | Duration of assignment | No fee | 10 working days |
Applications for a member staff visa with elevated clearance are referred to the member organisation and carry a standard of 20 working days. Devices are registered on arrival at the point of entry, not as part of the visa application; see Device Registration.
